Fall Yarn Wreath

So the other day I woke up with the overwhelming desire to make a wreath.  (We all have overwhelming wreath making desires, right?!)  So I set off to make a new fall wreath.  I knew I wanted something simple that I could do in a couple hours.  This is what I came up with.

Cute right?!

All I did was take a foam wreath form and wrap it with yarn.  Then I hot glued a fall floral sprig and a couple fall silk flowers to one side.   I finished it off with a big ole bow.  All the supplies were from Micheal's.   I think it turned out pretty fun.

Oh, and one more tip.  Since I had all the floral embellishments on one side it wouldn't hang straight.  So I just slipped a few coins under the yarn on the opposite backside to balance everything out.  It worked great!

A Basket Wreath

A tisket, a tasket, I made an Easter Basket!

 Isn't it fun?!

I wanted to make an Easter wreath that would last all spring.  I had in mind something that looked like a basket full of flowers.  So I had the idea of taking a wire wreath form and wrapping it in burlap to mimic the basket shape and adding a whole bunch of flowers.

I love how it turned out!

I think it still has that Easter feel with the basket, but it'll look good until I get around to replacing it.  Love that!

The bow tucked into the corner is probably my favorite part.

The day I made this I met with a few friends from my neighborhood and we all made wreaths, but I forgot to bring my camera.  So I don't have picture instructions, but I'll do my best to describe the process.

You start out with a wire wreath form.... one kinda like this.

Then get some burlap ribbon or strips of burlap.  I couldn't find ribbon so I ended up getting some burlap fabric and cutting it into strips.  Start by wrapping half the form to make the handle of the basket.  Then take strips of burlap and wrap the burlap all the way across the front of the  frame and hot glue on the back.  Continue down the second half of the wreath to create the basket.

So now you have the basic basket.  You can now add your flowers and embellishments!  I just tucked the flowers into the different strips of burlap, hot-gluing and/or tying it to the back.

I hope that made sense!

Anyway... It took me about an hour from start to finish and I love it! I hope you'll give it a try!

Lucky Yarn Wreath

Yesterday I was in the mood for a quick craft so I decided to make a new wreath for St. Patrick's day.  It was super easy and turned out pretty dang cute if I do say so myself.

All I did was take a straw wreath form (or you could use foam... whichever is cheaper) and wrap it with green yarn.

And wrap and wrap and wrap.  I enlisted the help of my five year old for this.  He held the ball of yarn and did the wrapping while I adjusted the spacing and kept everything tight.  With his help we had it done in about 30 minutes or so.

Then I hot glued a great big green and white bow on the top.

My secret to perfect bows is wired ribbon.  It makes all the difference!!!

The letters for the word "lucky" I found at Micheal's already painted white and glittered.  As much as I love painting its sometimes nice to find stuff already done!

I just hot glued the letters down another piece of the green ribbon and secured it to my wreath with a few sewing pins.  Like this...

That way if i ever want to remove the lucky banner and use the wreath for something else I can.  I'm not sure I ever will but its nice to have options!

And that's it!

A super cute new wreath for my front door in a little over an hour. I love crafts like that!

Christmas Wreath

You can't decorate for Christmas without making a wreath!  Here's the one I made.

It so sparkly, I love it! Plus it was super easy to make, love that too.

Here's my method.

Supplies
A wreath form.  I used a vine wreath so I didn't have to worry about some of it showing, but whatever if fine.
Leaves. Buy whatever is cheap because you are going to make them pretty later.  I used two sprigs of holly leaves.
One bundle curly sprigs.  Not really sure what you actually call these, but here is a picture. (you can see my leaves too)

Glitter.  You can buy nice glitter or you can buy cheap glitter.  While the nice stuff would have been...well... nice, I am cheap and got the cheapest stuff I could find.
Glue.  You will need both hot glue and craft glue. (I actually used modge podge because it was easiest to find in my mess)
Ribbon

All you do it rip all the leaves off, paint them with glue and cover in glitter.

Once they are dry, arrange them around your wreath form however suits your fancy.  I made mine go all the same direction.  Hot glue into place.

Add your curlies...

Top with a bow...

Hang and enjoy!

I told you it was easy!

Inspiration File

Once again, I have a lot to show off this week.  You guys are clever!  I'm starting with Thanksgiving ideas and then will move on to Christmas.

First up, The Magic of Ordinary Things made her own bunting banner, and it is SO SO pretty! Her whole mantle is to die for in fact.  I just love it!

Then, Craft Goodies made these adorable 2x4 turkeys.  They are really cute and would be a ton of fun to make.  I have a fondness for 2x4 crafts.  I think they are just a lot of fun.

And speaking of 2x4's.  Young and Crafty made these adorable Christmas trees.  These are definitely going on my to do list.

And then last, but not least, Kristi from Life through the Lens guest posted on Tatertots and Jello and shared the tutorial on this amazing yarn ball wreath.  I think it is such a cool and neat wreath idea.  Great job!

Once again, you guys rock.  I love browsing through blogland and seeing all the fun and inspiring ideas.  It's what keeps me creating.

Inspiration File

Wow, my inspiration file is full this week! So many fun things out there in blog land.  I hope you guys aren't getting tired of Halloween yet because most my features are Halloween related this week.  I love Halloween so I don't really mind.  However, I will admit my mind has started to shift to Thanksgiving and even (gasp) Christmas.  I got Pottery Barn's holiday catalog in the mail this week, and oh boy, do I have plans! I'm really excited but am refusing to allow myself to start crafting for Christmas until after Halloween at least.

Anyway, on to the features.  First off I was excited to get a note from Megan at The Barefoot Copy Cat telling my that she followed my rag wreath tutorial and made not one but two adorable wreaths.  I have to admit, I'm a little jealous.  I can tell she found a larger frame then the one I used and I just love the size.  Too cute, great job Megan.

Next up is this advent calender from Something From Cassie.  I think this idea is BRILLIANT! She made adorable magnetic squares using scrap papers and then put them on a muffin pan filled with treats.  I'm so going to make a bunch of different covers for all kinds of count downs.  Great idea, thanks Cassie!

Now the next three are all from Tatertots and Jello.  Jen sure had a great blog week!  I figure most of my readers probably read Jen's blog so this will probably be a repeat for most of you, but I still want to document all these great ideas so I don't forget about them.

Jessica, who blogs at Craftily Ever After, made these adorable beaded spiders for a guest post.  Aren't they too cool? She has some great ideas on how to use them two, like magnets for your fridge and on a headband. Love them!

Then Jen showed us her Christmas version of her painted pillows.  These are SO cute! I love all the embellishments she used to really make the ornaments special.  Great idea!

And finally, Jen showed us her adorable Thanksgiving garland.  I love that you can clip all the things to be thankful for on it and get the family involved.  Plus it is simply BEAUTIFUL!  Gotta make one of these for sure.

And last, Layla Grace showed this adorable Halloween Cake.  Its an old Martha Stewart cake and recipe but such a cute idea.  Plus, its looks easy enough that even I could do it! Love that!

Chocolate Marshmallow-Ghost Cake

Well, that's all for now.  If you were featured remember to grab a button.  See ya soon!

Inspiration File

As always, there were a ton of amazing projects this week.  Here are a few that particularly caught my eye.

First off, Creative Decor by Brook made my 2x4 pumpkins.  It was so much fun seeing the result of someone actually following one of my tutorials.  Hers turned out great too.  She left off the scrap paper and its fun seeing this variation. I love her bows too, so pretty.  Great job Brook!

Next, The Magic of Ordinary Things made this awesome Halloween wreath.  Isn't it too cool?!? I love that its different from all the other wreaths we have been seeing.  She used Styrofoam balls and toothpicks, of all things.  This is actually her second Halloween wreath and her first one was equally cool, although sadly it melted.  You'll have to check it out!

Then, WhipperBerry made the most beautiful paper pumpkins.  I thought I was done adding fall projects to my list, but these are just too cool not to make.  I'm going to try to make a great big one so I'll be sure to show you guys once I do.  Check out WhipperBerry for their awesome tutorial.

Finally, I wanted to thank Katie from Not Just Decorating for passing on to me the Happy 101 Blog Award.  She sure made my day! She has a pretty great blog too, so be sure to check it out.  One of my favorite recent posts of hers are these can luminaries.  I think this would be a fun projects with the kids, with help of course!

Well, I've been a crafting junkie this week and have enough content coming up to keep this blog busy for awhile.  I can't wait to show it all off!

Halloween Rag Wreath

So do you remember that rag wreath I featured from A Little Bit of Everything a couple of weeks ago?  Well the other day I was in Hancock Fabrics and they had all their holiday fabric 40% off.  That sealed the deal and I set off to make my own version of the rag wreath.  Wanna see?

I think it turned out pretty cute.  Here are my two cents on how to make a rag wreath.

A.  Find some super cute holiday fabric.  I got a total of 2 yards in four different patterns and had a little left over.  You could probably get away with a yard and a half, but it would be close.  Also, the original inspiration used a metal hanger as the form but I found a wire wreath form for only $1.99 at the craft store.  Since it has four rings your wreath will turn out much fuller.  Then just cut strips of fabric, about 6" long and 1" wide, and tie in a random pattern around your ring.  I doubled knotted because I didn't want my hard work to come undone.

B. Take a piece of ribbon and tie a loop about the top of your wreath to hang it from.  I tied it around the second ring.

C. Next I made a bow to attach to the loop.  I made two simple bows, one larger then the other, and then hot glued the two together.  Take a small piece of ribbon and wrap that around the middle to finish the look. (D)

E.  Glue the bow to the loop.

F.  I wanted to attach the word "BOO" but the craft store was out of "b" so I went with "EEK."  I painted them green and then topped it with sparkly silver paint.

G.  Attaching the letters to the wreath ended up being a little more tricky.  I ended up hot gluing a opened bobbi pin to the back of the letter. (Glue it at the top, not the middle like in the picture.) Make a small hook in the end of the pin.

H. Use that hook to hot glue the letter to the back of the wreath.  I also had to add a few drops of hot glue to a couple fabric pieces to keep the letters where I wanted them.

And your done, just hang and enjoy!

I love it!
