Liam's Nursery

So you know how I had a baby?  Well that was over 18 months ago.  And he has a stinkin cute room that I never photographed or blogged about.  Because I suck.  But it got cleaned today so I decided to fix that.  It may only be iPhone pics, but whateves.

Liam's Little Lamb Nursery

I just love this shelf above the changing table.

Especially this little wooden lamb I made. I'm kinda proud of him.

But my favorite part is his newborn pics.

I have the cutest babies!

Jonah's Nursery

(The official almost done reveal)

Well... I've teased long enough.  I'm ready to show you guys Jonah's nursery.  There is still one more thing I plan to do in there, but who knows when I'll actually get around to it.  So without farther ado, here is the almost done nursury.

This is the view right as you walk into the room.  His walls are a "greyish green."  I painted the trees with some good old frog tape and some white paint.  The rocker is from Babies R Us and is super comfortable.  I spend a lot of time in that chair!

As you rotate around you can see the cute mobile I made and the picture frame growth chart.  It looks so much cuter with all those sweet baby pictures in it!

The beautiful crib is the Ashby Crib from Pottery Barn.  It's a discontinued crib that I got from Downeast Home and paid a fraction of the PB price!  I LOVE Downeast Home!

And the bedding... I made it myself!!!  I'm not much of a seamstress and this is by far my biggest sewing project to date.  While time consuming, it was actually pretty easy. (Although I pretty much just winged it the whole time so I cant really give you a tutorial.  sorry!)  The whole room is based off this adorable print, Wonderland in Blue by Monaluna.

I paired it with a bright blue minky, a tone on tone chevron, and red trim.  Its so bright and happy and I just LOVE it!  (The little owl throw blanket I found at TJ Maxx.)

As you continue around the room this is the view from behind the door.  I have my Baby Stats frame and a little coat hook. (Hello kitty!)

And finally as you circle around again you see the changing table and the alphabet banner I made.  The little dresser is also from pottery barn.

And that's it!  I hope you like it!  We are loving it.  Its such a fun space to hang out and snuggle my sweet little man.

(Sorry for the less then stellar photos.  I tried to photograph when the room got the most light, but it just made for weird light and shadows. Bummer.  I really need to work on my photography skills)

Nursery Decor- sneak peek

So I am almost done with Jonah's nursery.  There are two more things I plan to add before I share the whole reveal, but as a little teaser I thought I'd share a couple things I made recently for the room.

First, my neighborhood group got together for a craft night the other day.  One of my neighbors had picked up a 9 opening shadow box frame for us all to do.  I have to admit it took me awhile to decide what to do with it!  But I decided to take it and make a "stats frame" for Jonah.  It turned out super cute!

It started out blank like this... (except not painted)

I then got super lucky and found these wood tiles from Micheal's that fit into each square perfectly.  I love it when things work out like that!

Then I went and found some cute scrapbook paper and printed some sepia newborn pictures of Jonah.  I modge podged the scrapbook paper and pictures on some of the tiles and used vinyl to make a stencil and painted the "stats" on the others.  (Tip:  if you have your pictures printed using a laser printer then you can modge podge without them bleeding. I had mine printed at office max.)

Then you can arrange your tiles.  I ended up using clear silicon to glue each tile in place.

Hang and enjoy!

------------------------------------------------------------

I also made Jonah his letters.  I found the wood letters at a local craft store and modge podged more cute paper to them.  (There has been lots of modge podge lately...)

They look so cute on his shelves!

And speaking of cute things on his shelves... aren't these woodland creatures the cutest?!  We found them at Pier1 Imports awhile back.  Love them!

Anyway, that's it for now.  The whole nursery reveal will be coming soon!

Woodland Baby Mobile

In case you missed it, I wanted to share my DIY baby mobile that I made for "crafting with/for kids" week over at Wood You Like to Craft.  Enjoy!

________________________________________________

Hello everyone! Krystal from Sassy Sanctuary here today to share my take on this month's "crafting with/for kids" theme. With a baby on the way I had use this as an excuse to cross off another thing from my nursery to-do list. So I went more with the crafting "for" kids route. Also, I have to confess that while there is a wood element, this is not an entirely wood project. Hope no one minds!

Anyway, if you go on Etsy and search "woodland mobile" you will find a bunch of adorable mobiles with little felt animals.  It took one look and I knew I had to have one for my woodland nursery, but since most range upwards of $70, I also knew I would have to DIY it.

So I went and gathered some felt and embroidery floss, found my favorite little animals from Etsy to shamelessly copy, and set to work.  Here is how it turned out.

I am so happy with it!  I really wish everyone could come over and see it in person since it was really hard to photograph and the pictures just don't do it justice.  But hopefully you get the idea!

We have an "elf house" (which I copied off the fabric I'm using in there)

An Owl...

 A Bear...

A Fox...

A Hedgehog...

And my favorite, the Raccoon.

And now where the wood comes in.  All these little guys needed a place to hang so I made a simple wooden mobile frame.

All you do is take a wooden block, drill holes in the four sides and insert dowels (add some glue to the holes).  I then capped the dowels with dowel caps.  All the supplies were found at Micheal's.  Then just stain or paint however you please.  There are also eye-hooks on the top and bottom of the block to hang from.

So that's it.  My DIY woodland baby mobile.

And just so you don't feel too bad for my kids, let me show you what my 6 year old son did while I sewed.

I cut him squares of felt, armed him with a needle and some thread, showed him how to do a simple whip stitch, and let him go to town.  He spent hours making this little "blanket" and is so proud of it.  And I love how entertained it kept him!  So yeah, no matter what you are crafting on, give your kids some of your scrap supplies and see what they can do.  Their creativity might amaze you!

Ava's "Big Girl" Room

Just a heads up, Wood you like to craft? is back!  I'm hosting this month and we are making shelves!  To keep things simple we are keeping the whole event on the WYLTC blog.  Head on over for a tutorial on my mason jar bathroom shelf and be sure to check out what all the other ladies do this week.  I'm sure its going to be great!

------------------------------------------------------

Sorry about the crickets on the ole blog here the last couple of weeks.  To say I've been crazy busy is an understatement. Things should start to slow down here though so hopefully I'll get back on track.  As promised, I have the full tour of my daughters "big girl" room.  If you want to go back and see what it looked like as her nursery, check that out HERE.

I didn't re-do the whole thing, just refreshed it to make it more conducive for a little girl and got her a "big girl" bed.  I'll let the pictures do most the talking.

The bed is from Down East Home and is the Madeline Daybed from Pottery Barn in "blade."  The blade color is a beautiful soft green that has been discontinued.  Of course, since I bought it at Down East Home I paid a fraction of the PB price!  I got the bedding at TJ Maxx and the sheets are from Target. (Although I can't find the exact set from their site, sorry.) I bought an extra sheet and an extra sham to cut up and make throw pillows with.   The doll house is from Tuesday Morning and was a birthday gift from Grandma.    You can see the tutu table and how it was made HERE, the princess art HERE and the Ikea hack bookshelves HERE.  Everything else is left over from her baby days.

So that's it!  Ava's "big girl" room!

Princess Perfect

My baby girls nursery.

When I was pregnant with my second child and found out she was a girl, I was so excited. The main reason being that I could design her nursery! I think that doing a baby girl's room is so fun. I love all the soft colors and the whimsy you can create that wouldn't work anywhere else. I have a love for older, romantic styles and knew that was the look I was after. I saw this room done by Candice Olsen on HGTV's Divine Design and used that as my inspiration. (isn't it amazing?) This is what I came up with.

It all started with the bedding. When I design bedrooms I find that bedding is a great place to start because it is such a large element. I found the bedding online and its made by Cocalo Couture. It was the perfect combination of tradition and contemporary and in the color scheme I wanted, pink and green.

The walls we painted pink and the faux paneling was created with tape, white paint, and a very talented husband. I love the look and it was a great way to break up all those pink walls.

The dresser was actually my mom's as a child. It had been in every house I can remember growing up and was UGLY! It was painted cream, avocado green, and mustard. All it needed was a fresh coat of white paint and new knobs. I'm sure it has many, many years of life still in it. I put a cute cork board above the dresser and have cards and mementos from her birth displayed there. When I found the wire coach, I HAD to have it!

The changing table is a nursery necessity. I love having baskets with easy access to all my diapering supplies and toys. The bottom shelf is a perfect spot for extra linens. I painted a craft store shelf white and hand painted the motif from the bedding.

The letters that spell my baby's name I also painted using the bedding. It was intimidating when looking at the print as a whole, but when I broke down the elements piece by piece it was a cinch. The greatest compliment I got was when someone said "I thought it was wallpaper."

I also found some great princess art on PoshTots website. Since I couldn't afford so much as a knob from there, I decided to recreate them myself. They are simple, colored pencil drawings put in hand painted mats and white frames. I find that if your art is mediocre, a great mat and frame can make all the difference.

The window treatment really made the room come to life. I hung them floor to ceiling not only for drama, but light control. We have an arched window that streams unwanted sunlight in at the crack of dawn. The sheers behind were store bought and the green panels were made by me. They are simply constructed with the fringe attached by fabric glue.

I really wanted to put a crystal chandelier in here and this room would have been perfect for it. However, my baby was born in July and it was hot! We really try not to use the air as much as possible, so we decided a ceiling fan was a must. When I found this one at Lowe's, for under $100 no less, I felt it was the perfect compromise.

So there you have it, a nursery fit for a little princess.
